ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)

The institution of engineers (India) was established in the September of 1920 in Chennai. In the early twentieth century, the visionaries amongst the engineers thought it necessary to establish in India a professional society encompassing all disciplines of engineers. And since then, the track record of The Institution of Engineers ( India) has been a matter of pride for all engineers.

The institute of engineers has two seperate chapters, one for engineering students (The student's chapter) and the other for the ones who have completed their engineering (The engineer's chapter). Every engineering college has its own student's chapter which consists of an executive body and the members who have registered for IE. The executive body comprises of-
Chairperson.
Vice-chairperson.
Secretary.
Joint secretary.
Treasurer.
Executive members.
Amongst themselves, they organise various technical events and manage the student's body of their college. Besides, the management of the college appoints one of the faculty members of the respective discipline to act as the Advisor of that Chapter.

The first question which pops into the mind when one hears about IE is about the benefits it offers to its members. If you too have any such query, then read on.

After registration, you get acknowledged as a member of IE and shall get a certificate ascertaining the same at the end of your degree.
IE focusses on honing the creativity of young minds. If a member has an innovative technical idea, IE can fund him upto Rs. 1,00,000 so that he can continue with his project without having to worry about money.
As a member, you are eligible for various seminars, workshops, debates, quizzes, etc organised by IE, and the winners shall be awarded prizes and certificates.
After the completion of your degree, you can do your M.Tech through correspondence while you are working somewhere.

If none of the above mentioned benefits appeals to you, the you can join IE just for the sake of the technical exposure and personality development that comes with its membership. It is an investment that shall probably never go waste. All in all, IE is not at all a bad way of spending your hundred bucks!!!

I am sharing the official IE website with you. You can visit it to clarify your remaining doubts, if any:
